Final Evaluation
I will be explain the progression, development, improvements and Initial ideas. During this task I decided to do 3D which i will admit is a bit of a push of my skills, having to learn UE4 as well as make a working prototype. I have worked hard on this task and have given it my all learning as I go along adding in more and more to the game. UE4 was something I have always wanted to learn and gain skills in Unreal Engine, using and learning blueprints was a challenge and took time to get use too but after some hard work and logic of understanding the functions and the blueprints I began getting use to it.
During idea generation I went through thinking of enemies, weapons, tools, terrain, wildlife and structures. Creating a wide array of tools and weapons. I was really Impressed with my drawing and creation of these tools and weapons they where just as i wanted them too go. I then moved on to structures making a concept for a little hut with a style that made it feel like it was in the correct time period which because of some complications same with the tools could not make it into the prototype game in time. I think I could improve with my time management and change in the way I bounce back from a set back instead of just giving up just keep pushing myself to do it and I could have got a lot more of the assets implemented and functional. The idea improvements I would say I need to change my attitude to drawing and get more use to drawing different styles of art. All the art was inspired by pictures I found online and used to generate new ideas for the new assets. The tools where takes off a website using exact copies of Mayan Tools that where drawn using a computer which I then redrew in my style of art.
I differently need to improve on my management of my project and change the way I publish them and improve the way I want to show my work. The management of my work was something I need to improve on massively and I think at the moment it is something very important to learn how to manage the work i am doing at the moment. Managing work well allows me to be at ease when I hand in a piece of work and project of this size, allowing less stress for me allowing my mind to focus on more things and not just rushing to do work.
I think my work focus was more on the programming other then a even spread of work being shared between all of my work, if I had spread my focus out around all of the different parts that I had to add into my game I would have been able to add my own assets into the game and show off my other skills, not just my programming skills but also showing off my Modeling, bone rigging, drawing and sketching. I do believe if i had more time i could probably have rigged my character and placed him into the game. I would say after working on the programming I now have a higher understanding of programming and modeling, improving my skills in both and giving me more confidence in both fields.
The sounds in the game have been used to give the a atmosphere so while you walk around the environment, you feel like you are there in the environment of the game. The sounds where used to give this affect to the player and allowing them to see what the environment would feel like while your in running around in it.
Visuals in game are based on the basics of UE4 using its shading program to add in sunlight points and mountain shading as well as tree shadows to give the player the affect of being lost in the wilderness of the game. Using the engine to make the water move is also something I focused on doing.
Interaction happens with the NPC when you start the test area, allowing you to see them walk around and move to talk to you when you walk near them. After fixing that I began working on the main menu and getting it so it froze your controls and allowing you to start your the game.
The summery for my review would be that I am impressed with how much I have learnt and how i have improved and progressed through this project I just wish i had more time to improve my game and add in more mechanics.
